Mallory was saved by strangers and the good people of the #Insulin4All movement.
Mallory Lorge, Wisconsin
Each night I went to bed hoping I’d wake up in the morning.
I was a newlywed type 1 diabetic and was about to get back to work following a long illness when the government shut down for a month. I started to ration my insulin because, after missing a few paychecks and being in medical debt, I couldn’t afford the $300 copay. My blood sugar stayed dangerously high in the 600’s. Each night I went to bed hoping I’d wake up in the morning.
The news got wind of my story, shared it with the world, and donations of money and insulin started to come in. So many reached out to me - news producers, politicians, police departments, doctors, pharmacists, hospitals, people around the world. But not one word from the big three insulin manufacturers, the very people who put me in this danger.
I was quite literally saved by strangers and the good people of the #insulin4all movement. Now I pay it forward when I can so that other diabetics won’t face the same deadly situation that I was in.
